Remember My Name
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), in conjunction with Ms. Magazine, initiated the Remember My Name project in 1994 to create a national registry of names of women who have been killed by an intimate partner. The aim of the project is to increase public awareness of domestic violence deaths.
Communication Strategies
The NCADV collects information on incidents of women who have been killed by an intimate partner and the information is compiled into a national registry. People who know of a woman who was killed due to domestic violence, are requested to complete a registration form and attach additional documentation available (newspaper clippings, police report, court records, etc.).
The NCADV website offers a virtual memorial, organised by year, listing all of the women who have been registered with the Project. The aim of the virtual memorial is to pay tribute to these women, as well as raise awareness of the large numbers of women who are killed as a result of domestic violence every year. The information is also used to produce a poster each year for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, listing the names of those submitted.
